Let's set the record straight when it comes to Airbrush Makeup

There's a lot of noise in the makeup world – especially when it comes to airbrush makeup. I've heard it all as a Makeup Artist with 18 years experience and a specialist in Airbrush Makeup too....

"It doesn't last."

"It's old-fashioned."

"It looks too natural."

But here's the thing – most of the people saying these things have never actually used it.

They've never trained in it. Never invested in the equipment. Never truly seen what it can do.

So how can they form such a blind opinion...???

Airbrushing: A Whole Other Skill Level

Airbrushing isn't just a different way of applying foundation. It's a professional technique that requires:

Specialist training

Precision application

Professional-grade equipment

It's not a shortcut – it's a level-up. And it's not something every MUA offers, because it's an extra commitment. But I trained in it years ago, and I've since gone on to teach it to both college students and working MUAs who want to upskill. I understand how to customise it for every face – every skin type, every finish, every preference to an advanced level.

What Makes Airbrush Different?

Airbrush foundation is applied as a fine mist, not with a brush or sponge. This mist creates a flawless, second-skin finish. Think:

✔ Seamless blend

✔ Light-as-air feel

✔ No heaviness or cakiness

The coverage is completely buildable – from a barely-there tinted moisturiser effect to full coverage. The magic? It never feels heavy, no matter how much is layered.

Water-Resistant & Camera-Ready

My chosen airbrush formula is silicone-based – a key ingredient in many high-end products – which means:

Long-wearing

Water-resistant

Luxurious, smooth finish

Incredible on camera and in person

This is why my reviews from my brides talk about how good they looked and how well it stayed true through the day and beyond into the dancing and drinking.

"Old-Fashioned"? Absolutely Not.

One of the biggest myths? That airbrushing is outdated. It's not. In fact, it's been used at the highest levels – including on catwalks and campaigns. Pat McGrath used airbrushing for major fashion week looks last year. If it's good enough for her? It's definitely good enough for your wedding day.

Why Some Artists Dislike It (Spoiler: It's Not About the Makeup)

Here's the truth: not everyone wants to invest in new skills.

Airbrushing requires:

Extra expensive upgrade on kit.

Extra time to practice as you don't become an expert in it from one training session, you need to practice the technique of holding the airbrush gun and making sure you have the right pressure when holding on the trigger so you don't over spray into your clients face.. It really takes time to master this.

Extra learning, you can't simply pick this up and go with it, you really need to be taught the skill and this takes time and money.

For many it's easier to dismiss it than to master it. But that doesn't mean the technique is flawed – it means they don't offer it and luckily I am one of the few MUAs locally that do and that is my super power.

Brides Book Me Because I Do It

The brides who come to me want their skin to look like skin – just better. They want something that lasts, feels light, photographs beautifully, and stays put all day. However I also have the skill of offering both Airbrush and conventional foundation because I like them both and offer my brides to be choice.

That's why I offer airbrush.

And that's why I believe in it.
