Romance at the Zoo: A Stunning Wedding Celebration for Beth and Harry at Chester Zoo

I am Cathryn Kerwin-Rawlinson from Made up by Cathryn and I have been a Bridal Artist now for over 17 years and I specialise in naturally enhancing elegant bridal makeup. I cover mostly Cheshire and North Wales border areas but I do often travel further afield from time to time.

I feel extremely lucky to have the opportunity to do what I love each day—helping brides look beautiful on one of the most important days of their lives. I frequently think back on weddings that held particular significance, and one that stands out from this summer is Beth's wedding. This wedding was especially meaningful to me because her future mother-in-law, Lynn, is a friend whom I deeply admire and respect.

The day of Beth's wedding turned out to be one of the hottest days I can recall working in Summer 2024. The heat was intense, but I'm happy to say that when I look back at the stunning photos from Clara Cooper Photography, the makeup stayed flawless through to the evening. That's always a huge relief and a testament to the products and techniques I use.

I first met Beth in late 2023 when she came for a makeup trial, accompanied by Lynn. We had a lovely time chatting about the wedding and Beth's preferences for her makeup. I remember Beth was leaning toward a heavier makeup look, which I'm always open to. However, some techniques she had in mind, like heavy contouring and baking, weren't quite in line with my approach as often it simply isn't necessary even if you want longevity from makeup. For the relaxed, boho-meets red carpet-inspired vibe of her wedding day, I knew a more refined, seamless look would be the best choice and I am so glad as I don't think heavy layer would have been comfortable on a day as hot as it was. While we went with a medium to full-coverage makeup look to give her that glamourous, red-carpet feel she was after, it was important to me that the makeup also looked great in person, not just in photos. The result was a polished, elegant finish that I felt truly suited Beth and the day.

I was lucky to have my very good friend, Carol Ellis-Thompson Bridal Hair, working alongside me on the day. Carol is known for creating romantic and relaxed hairstyles, and she truly nailed the soft, effortless vibe we were going for with Beth's hair. Together, we created a look that felt cohesive and beautiful, enhancing Beth's natural features.

Beth wore an Enzoani gown that was just absolutely stunning. The dress was intricately beaded from top to bottom, with a gorgeous scooped back and a plunging neckline that showcased her tall, slender frame beautifully. She looked nothing short of incredible in it, and the photos captured this perfectly. I also need to give a special mention to Clara Cooper Photography, who I recommended to Lynn. Beth had mentioned in her trial that their style was exactly what she was after, and thankfully, they were available to capture their day. The photos were breath-taking.

I thought I'd also mention some of the products I used on Beth for those interested in the details. Her foundation was Illamasqua Skin Base, which offers medium to full coverage and gave her the flawless finish she wanted. I didn't use airbrush for this look, opting instead for a more traditional method, but the results were just as stunning. I used shimmering champagnes and neutral tones on the eyes with her signature liner flick and on the lip she wore a coral nude tone form Charlotte Tilbury called "in love with Olivia" this was after she saw it used on another bride of mine earlier in the year.

It's always such a pleasure to be part of a wedding, and days like this remind me why I love what I do.
