The importance of eye cream it's an essential step in your routine

My name is Cathryn Kerwin-Rawlinson, and I specialise in Bridal Makeup. In addition to being a skilled Wedding MUA, I possess extensive experience in skincare. I believe that for the makeup I apply to look stunning on the wedding day, it is essential for my brides to put effort into skincare leading up to the event.

There comes a time in many people's lives when they start to consider adding an eye cream into their skincare routine. One of the biggest issues I see is the frustration many feel with concealer creasing under the eye. Let's be honest: there's no concealer out there that won't crease at all. If you have fine lines and wrinkles under your eyes, concealer is going to crease, full stop. However, one way to help reduce the appearance of creasing or combat dehydration and dark circles is by incorporating an eye cream.

Why an eye cream specifically? The skin around the eye is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face, and this makes it more prone to signs of ageing, usually showing up around the age of 25 when collagen production starts to slow. This is why eye creams are different from regular moisturisers. They are formulated to be gentler on the fragile skin around the eyes and often contain specific ingredients to target common concerns like dark circles, puffiness, and dehydration.

There's a wide variety of eye creams available. Some focus on hydration, helping to keep the skin plump and moisturised, while others contain ingredients like caffeine to help reduce the appearance of dark circles (though it's important to note that nothing will fully get rid of dark circles). More emollient eye creams can help those with extremely dry skin, and for those looking to address signs of ageing, eye creams with retinol can be particularly effective when used at night to combat fine lines and wrinkles.

When selecting an eye cream, it's important to choose one based on your specific needs. I personally lean towards hydrating eye creams, as I suffer from dry skin and dehydration (let's face it, I could probably drink more water!). I've noticed that this is where I see the first signs of ageing, so I make sure to focus on hydration to keep that area looking its best.

If you're someone who feels frustrated by how your concealer settles into fine lines, an eye cream could be a simple but effective step to help minimise that issue. It won't eliminate the creasing entirely, but it will help keep your under-eye area looking fresher and more hydrated.

In future posts, I'll dive deeper into other skincare topics, including retinol and how it works. For now, though, if you're prepping for your wedding day and find yourself frustrated with how concealer behaves under your eyes, an eye cream is definitely something worth considering. It's often overlooked but can make a world of difference!
